# Aubade II

A broad yellow shape leans across Aubade II like a sail filling with the first breeze of the day, wide at the top and narrowing to a soft point below. Fine hairline cracks wander through its surface, and along its upper edge the paint has dried into a delicate lace of tiny crinkles. Around it, the dark teal ground is crazed like old pottery and flecked with olive and bronze, so the bright form seems to glow against deep shade.

Colangelo laid down the yellow in a single sweeping pour, then left both layers to dry and contract in their own time, so the crackle running through teal and gold is entirely the paint's doing. Up close, small cells and pinpoint craters dot the yellow where air rose through it. Part of her TERRAIN series, it carries the hopeful feeling of a day just beginning. It brightens a stone kitchen counter beside an olive ceramic bowl, or a walnut desk in a soft blue study, where an olive leather chair and a brass lamp pick up its tones.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
