# Before It Blooms

Before It Blooms gathers its weight on the right, where a tall form rises in thick, ridged strokes of cornflower blue, rose, cream and pale gold, folded tight like petals not yet ready to open. Every crest of paint stands up from the canvas and holds the light. To the left the mood loosens into translucent veils of saffron and ochre, a column of blue and a single burgundy drip running straight down, while clear glossy runs slip between the colors and still look wet.

Colangelo built the surface in stages, pressing and scraping the paint into ridges, then allowed the drips to fall wherever gravity sent them. She works without a fixed plan, letting each stage suggest the next, and here that patience gives the piece its mood of quiet anticipation. One of the BLOOM paintings, it comes alive in side light, which picks out every folded edge. It sits beautifully above a blue banquette in a sunny breakfast nook, or over a walnut dresser in a blush-toned studio where golden fabrics echo its warmth.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
