# Before the Wind

Four feathered stalks stand in a row across Before the Wind: yellow, turquoise, cobalt and a last one that burns from pink into orange. Behind them the weather is soft and shifting. Lilac and grey clouds drift over a misted blue sky, a band of warm gold light runs through the middle, and a block of deep plum anchors the lower left. Each stalk was laid down in one quick stroke, the paint dragged into raised feathers that seem to lean toward a breeze that has not yet come.

Colangelo built the sky from fine layers of spray, so its blue reads as a granular mist, while the stalks sit thick and glossy on top and thin drips from the gold slip down into the white ground below. One of the BLOOM paintings, it came together through pouring, spraying and layering without a fixed plan, each pass deciding the next. The mood is hushed and expectant. It brings open air to a sunlit window seat with pale wood and pink and turquoise cushions, or to a walnut sideboard against a lavender wall.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
