# Breathe

Breathe holds a wave at the moment it rises and turns. Cool turquoise and aqua sweep diagonally across the panel, while cobalt and sky blue scatter in broken patches through the upper left like light on moving water. At the center a pale area of seafoam opens like spray hanging in the air, and below it a broad crest of mint and jade curls upward, its edge laced with fine white foam. The surface is soft and glossy, with threads of white tracing the currents throughout.

From her TERRAIN series, the painting was poured with blue and white together and the panel tipped, so the cells, veils and lacy foam could form as the paint traveled. Colangelo guided the flow but let it settle on its own, which keeps the crest loose and alive rather than drawn. There is real calm in it, the feeling of a long exhale. It looks lovely above a limestone vanity in a bright bathroom stacked with white towels, or near a round oak table in a breakfast room with blush pink walls.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
