# Childhood Summer

Warm coral light fills Childhood Summer from edge to edge. At its center a glossy red shape slumps downward like a popsicle left in the sun, its edges soft and bubbling, its base lit by a small patch of lemon yellow. Above it sits a dark plum crown, heavy and grainy, with a few loose drips breaking from its edge, while a blush of magenta drifts in at the left. The coral ground carries faint ripples where the paint moved and settled before it dried.

Colangelo poured the colors and let them bleed into one another without forcing a shape, and the playful forms arrived on their own. The red holds a candy-like shine, while the plum stays matte and sandy, a contrast that shows best up close. From her TERRAIN series, it is a small, sweet piece for a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall. It looks at home above a walnut dresser in a dressing room, or beside a round breakfast table and bentwood chairs against warm mauve walls.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
