# Do You Smell Fumes?

A figure stands with arms crossed, gas mask on, a single red flower at his head, electric green blazing behind him. The image lands instantly. Color, confrontation, presence. Tufted in acrylic yarn on cotton at 68 x 48 inches, the work fills a room. Up close the surface is unexpectedly soft, the dimensional yarn almost contradicting the severity of the image. Cedric began using his own likeness while teaching himself to tuft, and that honesty remains. A self portrait about the masks we wear while we are still figuring ourselves out.

### About The Artist Content

Cedric Vu (b. 1996) is a French-Vietnamese contemporary visual artist born and raised in San Jose, California. From 2014 to 2023, he lived in Los Angeles, where he studied filmmaking, worked as a dancer, and held a range of production roles in film and television.

In 2024, Vu returned to his hometown to establish a physical art practice rooted in creative authorship and independence. Teaching himself to tuft yarn, he began creating textile works - often self-portraits - using his own image out of practicality as he developed his technique in the medium. Though textiles have become the foundation of his emerging body of work, Vu continues to expand his practice with the intention of working across multiple mediums.

Since establishing his studio practice, Vu has exhibited at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, where he also serves as an Art Preparator. His work will be featured in the forthcoming 2027 group exhibition Echoes of Being at the Bakersfield Museum of Art. Vu’s work has quickly captured the attention of collectors and admirers alike, including renowned stylist and image architect Law Roach, known for his collaborations with Zendaya, Céline Dion, and others.
