# Embers of Hope

At the heart of Embers of Hope, a dark mass of oxblood and maroon smolders, its surface rough and grainy like charred wood still holding heat. Around its edge a rim of red-orange and molten gold burns bright, breaking into tiny flames and speckles. Beyond it the air turns cool and hazy, slate blue and pale aqua clouds with a blush of pink near the top, while a misty lime glow rises from below and a spray of small blue droplets drifts off like sparks.

Colangelo poured the deep center, sprayed the soft atmosphere around it and let the layers meet on their own terms, so the edges flare and bubble where wet paint pushed against wet paint. Up close, the maroon shines like glaze over fine grit. From her TERRAIN series, it holds a quiet fire that will not go out, even in its darkest part. It glows above a walnut bench in a stone-floored entry or a light oak sideboard in a pale blue dining room, where oxblood leather and garnet glass pick up its reds.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
