# Entering with Alfred

The name Alfred is old and slightly formal, and yet the painting it arrives into is warm, playful, and full of color. Collaged squares in teal, mustard, and grey are interrupted by a looping red circle and small gestural figures, and the whole composition has the quality of an entrance made with some ceremony but without any stiffness. There is humor here, and affection.

Corcelle's work is guided by curiosity above all, and this painting has that quality of following a thought wherever it leads, adding a mark here, a fragment there, until the canvas finds its own logic. Alfred, whoever he is, seems like good company.
