# First Love I

First Love I unfolds in soft, stacked layers, like a landscape seen through rose colored glass. A pale blue sky rests above a band of deep navy, laced with tiny cells and curling into a single breaking wave. Below, butter yellow gives way to a wide field of glowing pink, crossed by a ribbon of red studded with small crusted beads. Silvery islands drift through the colors like clouds or smooth stones, and near the bottom lime and coral swirl together in marbled pools.

Colangelo poured each layer and let it flow, crack and open on its own, so the cells, beads and marbling arrived by chance rather than by plan. The silver shapes act almost like windows in the panel, quiet pauses among the brighter color. Part of her RIVERS series, it has a tender, wide eyed sweetness. Its size suits a light oak sideboard in a cream sitting room, or a chest of drawers against a sage green wall, where blush cushions and brass pulls echo its pink and red.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
