# From the Hill to the Lake

A wide, low landscape seen from a slight elevation: a stretch of flat wetland or estuary extends toward the horizon, with a compact burst of warm ochre-green shrub in the foreground and dark gestural marks suggesting driftwood or debris along the water's edge. The sky is pale and vast above. Batia's handling here is looser and more panoramic than in her closer compositions - the space opens out, the marks become sparser, and the watercolor's transparency does the work of light and distance.

### About The Artist Content

Batia Senft is an Israeli-Dutch painter, born in Bulgaria, whose work grows from a deep connection to landscape, atmosphere, and the quiet emotions found in nature. Using watercolor, acrylic, ink, and pastel, she creates layered scenes where fields, skies, and trees ease into one another.

Senft works intuitively, following the flow of color on paper and letting unexpected marks guide the direction of each piece. Her paintings move between abstraction and realism, allowing forms to appear gradually and on their own terms. Some works begin with a feeling or a moment observed outdoors; others start from a photograph she later interprets with her own sensibility. Light, weather, and seasonal change often shape the mood and rhythm of her compositions.

Exploration is central to her practice. She shifts comfortably between techniques and materials, letting each painting develop at its own pace. Her work is noted for its emotional sensitivity, subtle harmonies of color, and the quiet sense of movement that runs through it.

Senft has exhibited in Israel, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, and South Korea, and her works are collected internationally.
