# HY-KO

The title is a fragment, a partial word or an abbreviation, something that implies a larger context without providing it. The painting works the same way: a long-haired figure rendered in soft, worn marks occupies the center of a layered, intimate composition, surrounded by text, texture, and small objects that feel like clues in a story the viewer is only partway into. Corcelle's work is guided by curiosity, and this painting shares that quality with its viewer.

The palette is quieter here, grays and pinks and warm tans, and the mood is contemplative. It is the kind of painting that makes you want to know more, not about the painting specifically, but about looking, about what the eye finds when it is given time and a good reason to slow down.

Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.
