# Jeu de l'Oie

Named for the old French board game, the Game of the Goose, this painting moves the way a good game does: in spirals, in jumps, with unexpected detours. Collaged fragments scatter across a pale ground, connected by lines and gestures that suggest both map and maze. There is play here, genuine play, and also the quiet seriousness that always underlies it.

Corcelle grew up between cultures and continents, and her work carries that restless, curious energy, always in motion, always finding a new square to land on. Her French background gives the title an intimacy, a sense that this is a game she knows from childhood and has been playing, in one form or another, ever since.
