# Ladders to Home

Home is not always a place you arrive at directly. Sometimes it requires the kind of climbing this title names, a series of ascents and adjustments and small arrivals before the larger one. Corcelle lived and worked across Africa and Asia before settling in the United States, and her understanding of home as something built incrementally runs through her practice in quiet but insistent ways.

There is warmth in the painting despite its complexity, an invitation in the way the colors are arranged. You do not feel outside this work. You feel welcomed into it, which is exactly what a home should do.
