# moving horizons

Rose and teal, held at the edge of each other. A painting about the moment before things change - that particular stillness when light hasn't quite decided what it wants to be. The two fields breathe into each other, shifting like a landscape seen through half-closed eyes.

Rita's palette draws from colors found in nature, and she layers and erases, washes and returns, until each painting finds its own truth.

### About The Artist Content

Rita Matos (b. 1988) is a Portuguese-born, London-based mixed media artist. Working from her studio in London, she creates paintings informed by her surroundings and emotional landscape, using abstraction as a means of reflection and inquiry.

Her practice is guided by an intuitive process of mark-making, producing works that range from large-scale, gestural compositions to more intimate paintings. Through layered applications of color, Matos combines expressive, physical gestures with moments of restraint and carefully considered abstract imagery, allowing each work to evolve organically through the act of making.

Central to her work are ideas of accumulation and disappearance, surface and depth, and fragmentation and cohesion. She approaches painting as a process of construction and deconstruction - adding, erasing, and reworking the surface -where each mark becomes a trace of time and experience. Painting thus functions as an act of remembrance, capturing the residue of both presence and absence.

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions and is held in private collections internationally.
