# Offering

A golden wing unfurls across Offering, its veins traced in raised lines of pale paint that catch the light, the hollows between them pooled with glossy yellow and tangerine. Curving around it, a thick arc of sky blue bends like a sheltering arm, and along its outer edge a marbled ribbon of teal, lemon and deep blue frays into lacy, scalloped drops. A fine yellow mist drifts over the white ground, dotted with tiny specks, and four small silver standoffs hold the panel off the wall so the whole piece seems to float.

One of the paintings in her BLOOM series, it began with poured color moving freely over the smooth surface, the forms surfacing as Colangelo worked rather than being planned in advance. "I love allowing the process itself to guide the final result," she says, and the wing seems to have arrived exactly that way, open and unhurried. The glossy relief rewards close looking. It glows on a kitchen wall above light oak cabinetry and a teal glass vase, or over a walnut dresser in a bedroom with soft blue walls.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
