# Open Route II

This vertical canvas is organized around contrasts that feel almost architectural: a field of bright turquoise against a dense, scratched-up black ground, bold geometric shapes in green and red pushing against each other at the edges, and a large divided circle sitting at the center of the upper half like a compass face or a cross-section of the earth. A vivid yellow-green line cuts horizontally across the dark zone below, a single stroke of light traveling through shadow. Corcelle's process of layering, scraping, and collaging gives the black field a textured depth with real weight, the surface built up and worked back until it holds the darkness completely.

The title names something still in motion, a route not yet finished, a path that remains open ahead of the traveler. Corcelle has described her inspiration as coming from the world beyond her studio: from travel, from encounters with diverse cultures, from the kind of observation that happens when you are genuinely paying attention to an unfamiliar place. Her background in landscape architecture, combined with years of living across Africa and Asia, gives her an unusual feeling for how people move through space. Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.

Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.

She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.
