# Ostinato X

A towering double loop of fire red and molten orange fills the center of Ostinato X, poured so densely that the color churns and folds like lava. Inside, the reds swirl into amber and burgundy, and toward the lower right the loop darkens to deep violet, its edges ragged and alive. Behind it runs a calm ground of soft blue, mint and peach, combed with drips that fall from bands of yellow, pink and dark green along the top edge, some of them crackled where the paint dried.

The loop grew layer upon layer, each pour cascading over the last, while the drips behind it fell in straight, patient lines. "I love allowing the process itself to guide the final result," Colangelo says, and here that process sets a heavy, blazing center against an airy ground, which gives the painting real presence. Part of her FORCE series, it burns with persistence. Its height suits an entryway above a walnut bench, or a sage green lounge with a charcoal credenza, where a red patterned rug and warm brass answer its heat.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
