# Ostinato XII

A broad stroke of yellow curls across the top of Ostinato XII and loops back down into a swirling body of marbled color, where scarlet, rose, cobalt, emerald and pale lilac twist through one another like water in a tide pool. The loop is thick and sculptural, its edges rimmed in deep green and freckled with tiny droplets. Behind it, a curtain of yellow, pink and blue drips runs down a dark teal ground, softened in places by sprayed bands of glowing color.

Colangelo poured the form in successive layers and let gravity and chance marble the colors, each pass uncovering something she could not have planned. "Each piece is created with a sense of freedom," she says, and that freedom is easy to feel in the lavish, looping gesture at its center. Part of her FORCE series, the painting has the pull of a melody that keeps coming back. It holds its own above a teal banquette and a yellow dining table, or over a walnut record console in a blush living room lit with brass.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
