# Paradise Found

Cool blues fill Paradise Found, layered like light moving on water and held together by a few bright notes of red. A broad red arch near the top anchors the composition, answered by a smaller red form rising from the lower edge. Pencil lines and printed textures surface wherever the paint has been scraped back, a meeting of paint, drawing and texture that recalls Robert Rauschenberg, one of the artists Lee Cox most admires.

Cox paints every day, and this small canvas carries the depth of many sessions. Rather than explain a painting, he prefers to ask people what they see in it and how it makes them feel, and he hopes a work keeps doing that long after it comes home. It suits a reading nook, a hallway or the wall above a desk.

### About The Artist Content

Lee Cox is a contemporary abstract artist based in Carmel, California. After a 35-year career in telecommunications, he transitioned from a lifelong collector of abstract art to a dedicated studio painter.

Cox’s practice is rooted in memory and impression, with each painting serving as a layered meditation on a moment, emotion, or lived experience. Working primarily in acrylic and collage, Cox approaches the canvas without a fixed plan. He builds depth and texture through an intuitive process of addition and subtraction, guided by memory and music. Music often triggers recollections that shape the composition, and as the work evolves, a specific memory gradually comes into focus. Cox continues to refine the surface until the emotional truth of the moment feels fully realized. His carefully chosen titles offer context while leaving space for open interpretation.

Cox’s work has been exhibited in solo and juried group shows across California and nationally, and his paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States.
