# PORTAL I

This piece has a quiet, inviting presence. Portal I opens the composition through a soft, luminous arc that feels both architectural and atmospheric. The pale blush center gently radiates outward, while the surrounding neutrals and darker linear accents create a subtle sense of structure and grounding. The hand-dyed fabric gives the surface a beautiful, organic variation, and the stitching quietly reveals the artist's process. Up close, there is a tenderness to the material that does not fully translate in photographs. A work that brings calm light into a space, sitting effortlessly in refined interiors and dialoguing beautifully with other works from the Portal series.

### About The Artist Content

Panda Landa (b. 1982) is a queer, non-binary visual artist and filmmaker who creates vibrant mixed-media textile works using reclaimed, hand-dyed materials. Raised in the deserts of Nevada and now based in Joshua Tree, Panda draws inspiration from the quiet, open landscapes that shaped them, letting the colors, textures, and moods of the desert guide their work.

Self-taught in visual art, Panda works through instinct and improvisation, allowing each piece to develop naturally. Sustainability is central to their practice: every fabric is sourced second-hand and transformed through careful hand-dyeing, giving each artwork its own unique history. Their ongoing series - PORTAL, ALTAR, ECLIPSE, VESSEL, and more - explores themes of queerness, identity, ancestral narrative, healing, and transformation.

With a background in filmmaking, including their 2022 film ‘In the Middle of Everywhere’, Panda brings a strong sense of atmosphere and storytelling to their visual work. Their pieces invite viewers into a world shaped by emotion, color, and the quiet power of reclaiming and reimagining what already exists.
