# Proud and Free

Proud and Free is built around a great feathered plume that sweeps up the panel on a long diagonal. Its dark green spine branches into fine, wiry veins, and from them fan dozens of looping strands in tangerine, gold, cream and flashes of scarlet, glowing brightest where a field of lemon yellow sits behind them. Above the plume, a rust starburst blooms in the upper left corner over cobalt and blush pink, while cool blues, navy and pale silver settle along the right edge.

Colangelo laid the strands down in fast, wet lines of poured and dripped paint, letting them stretch and splatter so each curve keeps its speed, then sprayed soft color into the ground beneath. From her BLOOM series, the work feels buoyant and wind-lifted, with the plume tilting upward as it opens. It makes a vivid focal point above a walnut record console beside a blue velvet armchair, or over a light oak bench in a sage entryway with terracotta cushions and olive branches.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
