# Rust and Memory

Rust and Memory reads like a weathered surface seen up close, an old hull or a garden gate left for years in salt air. Glossy sea green swirls through the upper half, threaded with pale cream and crowded with raised grains of olive and gold that cluster like lichen. Lower down the texture thickens into knots of copper and rust, crusted and bumpy, settling into a pool of warm apricot and amber that shines like varnish. Each bead and ridge catches the light in its own way.

Colangelo let the poured layers and gritty materials settle together and find their own patina, so the panel looks shaped by time as much as by hand. Among her RELIC paintings, it has the quiet charm of something weathered and well loved. ### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
