# Secret Joy

Low in Secret Joy, a small glowing form rests inside its own golden halo, plum and copper ringed in sunny yellow, like something precious tucked into a fold. Around it, color moves in broad, soft waves. Cobalt and sapphire pool along the left, a stream of orange and scarlet runs down the right, and two scalloped green shapes float through the middle like leaves carried on a current. In the upper corner, a cloud of lemon yellow froths into fine, lacy texture.

Colangelo poured and tilted the panel, letting the colors flow into one another until they settled into edges of their own. Where pigment powder met the wet pours, the surface turned granular and cell-like, most of all in the yellow and around the glowing center. From her COSMOS series, the painting carries a private, unhurried happiness that rewards a second look. Its vertical format works well over a black console in an entryway or a light oak sideboard in a soft blue living room, where cognac leather and rust cushions draw out its warmth.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
