# Survived Winter

Survived Winter is built from thick white paste, swept across the canvas in ridges and curls like snow that drifted and then froze where the wind left it. Through the white rise slender streaks of rose and deep burgundy, soft at their edges, standing upright like birch trunks or bare stems against the cold. Fine dark specks scatter over the surface, gathering here and there in small clusters like seeds, or the first patches of earth showing through a thaw.

Colangelo dragged and layered the white in broad strokes, then sprayed and dusted the color so it could settle into the hollows of the texture, letting the specks land wherever they fell. From across a room the painting reads cool, but up close its cream and blush tones carry a quiet warmth, a sense that spring is already close. One of the RELIC paintings, it holds the steady calm of a season weathered. It suits a pale oak vanity beside a rose velvet pouf, or a walnut credenza in a mauve study lit by brass.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
