# Swept Away

Swept Away opens out of darkness: a vivid yellow vortex sits in a black field, its heart a fine lace of golden veins crazed into tiny cells. Rings ripple outward from that core like water stirred by a stone, each edged in pale yellow and shadowed with navy. Around them a burst of sprayed yellow flares into the night, grainy and electric, while a pool of deep blue gathers just beneath and the edges of the panel fall quietly away into black.

From her COSMOS series, the painting came together in two gestures. Colangelo poured the center and left it alone, letting the paint craze and spread on its own terms, then sprayed the glow around it in quick, energetic passes. The result has the pull of a whirlpool, small but magnetic, with a surface that shifts from glassy lace to soft powder as you lean closer. Its scale suits a desk, a shelf or a gallery wall grouping, and it shines over a black cabinet in an entryway or a walnut chest against a blue study wall.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
