# Tapestry Of The Halos

Two large oval forms in warm antique gold sit one above the other against a white ground - each surface covered in the dense, repeating pattern of an old textile or illuminated manuscript. Where the two ovals meet at the center, they overlap slightly, sharing that threshold. The work is quiet and ceremonial: the halo as both sacred symbol and natural form - the rings found in wood, in water, in the eye of a storm. Koury's Tapestry of Nature series weaves together ancient and contemporary visual languages, and this piece draws from both without belonging entirely to either. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Texas at Austin.

### About The Artist Content

Rebecca Koury is a contemporary painter and collage artist whose work explores the relationship between material, movement, and quiet transformation. Rooted in a lifelong curiosity about the natural world and the unseen forces that shape it, her abstractions emerge through a meditative process of layering and building up thin glazes of paint that evoke both depth and transparency.

“The beauty and mystery of Nature inspire my artistic process,” Koury says. “I want to interpret my experience of Nature and express the feeling of this experience through paint and other visual media.”

Raised in an artistic family, Koury was captivated early on by the emotion and depth of Old Masters like Titian. She earned her MFA in Fine Art and Art History from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied under sculptors William Crist, David Deming, and Thana Lauhakaikul. Her background in sculpture continues to inform her paintings, revealing a dialogue between structure and organic form.

After several years in San Francisco working for Ralph Lauren, Koury relocated to the Monterey Peninsula to dedicate herself fully to painting. Her work has since been featured in more than thirty exhibitions, including the Monterey Museum of Art, the New Museum of Los Gatos, and Gallery MAR Carmel.

Guided by intuition and discovery, Koury creates richly textured, luminous surfaces that invite both reflection and sensory experience. Her works are held in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, as well as in Japan, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates.
