# The Enigma of Ebony Blooms

Dark flowers in a bright world. This is the enigma the title names. A bold, almost theatrical composition in pinks and reds, with graphic foliage pushing against the frame, and a white vase at the center that holds everything still. Corcelle's process involves accumulation and revelation in equal measure, and here she has let something a little mysterious emerge from the layers.

The blooms are beautiful and slightly unknowable, which is, of course, exactly what flowers are. Corcelle approaches her subjects with genuine curiosity rather than certainty, and the result is a painting that resists easy resolution in the most satisfying way.
