# Tree of Light

Tree of Light glows like a lantern against a speckled night sky. A broad canopy arches over the panel in bands of glossy red, then orange, then a radiant yellow core, its outer rim cracked and flecked with gold where the paint pulled apart as it dried. From the center a green, heart-shaped crown narrows into a slender trunk, and a long drip of orange trails down the left side. Around it, misty navy and slate blue are dusted with a fine yellow haze, so the whole tree seems to give off its own light.

Colangelo poured the canopy in thick, overlapping layers and sprayed the sky around it, setting smooth, liquid color against a soft, grainy atmosphere. One of her COSMOS paintings, it pairs a simple, iconic form with a deep field of night color. It brings warmth to a light oak sideboard in a bright kitchen coffee corner or a walnut desk in a pale blue study, alongside rust linen, brass lamps and potted olive trees.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
