# Waiting

Two long triangles of scarlet meet at a single crossing point in Waiting, tracing the outline of an hourglass over a field of cobalt and teal. The red sits thick and raised, almost encrusted, with flecks of yellow and green rising through it from the layers below. Along the top, bands of mustard, green and blue let go in long, straight drips that run the full height of the panel, steady as falling sand, while thin pale lines streak the cool ground.

Colangelo laid the red in heavy, deliberate passes and let the drips set their own pace. "Each piece is created with a sense of freedom," she says, and here that freedom plays out inside a firm structure, the loose verticals held in place by one strong graphic shape. Part of her FORCE series, it holds the restless patience of time moving slowly. It brings real presence to a living room above a dark wood media console and a navy leather chair, or to a cream bedroom where rust red bedding answers the scarlet.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
