# Weathered, Still Here

In Weathered, Still Here, a rounded mass of deep cobalt and acid yellow sits low against a sky of sprayed powder blue that clears to warm cream. The blues are rippled and furrowed like water moving over stone, with small white flecks scattered along a dark ridge near the top. Lower down, the yellow takes over in loose, streaming veins, flowing around a pale, circular hollow at the left. Along the right edge, a soft grey mist runs down the panel in faint drips.

Part of her TERRAIN series, the piece has the presence of a boulder or headland that has taken years of wind and tide and kept its shape. Colangelo poured the cobalt and yellow together and let them push against each other as they settled, giving the surface its layered, worn look. It sits beautifully above a blue upholstered banquette in a sunny breakfast nook, or over a walnut bench in a pale blue entryway, alongside olive branches, lemons and green glass.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
