# Where It Broke

A long, sloping form crosses the dark slate ground of Where It Broke like a headland seen from the water. Its upper half is a cool, pebbled sky blue scattered with tiny bubbles, while below it a band of vivid red floods downward, glossy and intense, deepening to wine where the two colors mix. Along the right edge a ribbon of soft lime traces the shoreline and glows against the shadowed ground. A fine, straight line runs across the red, a hairline fracture in the surface.

Colangelo poured the three colors and let them shift and part as the paint settled, so the break arrived on its own rather than by design. One of her TERRAIN paintings, it holds the moment something comes apart and the unexpected beauty that can appear right there. Up close the red is crackled like enamel and the blue is finely beaded. It suits a pale oak console in a bright entry hall, where a cobalt glass bowl echoes its blue, or a walnut console against a warm peach wall beside teal velvet chairs.

### About The Artist Content

Mandie Colangelo is an abstract painter based in Monterey, California. Raised in Arizona, she painted from childhood and wrote music, then built a creative career that moved through fashion, design, jewelry, graphic design and photography. Each chapter sharpened her eye for color, form and material. A season of profound change brought her back to the brush, and painting is now her primary practice.

Working in the abstract expressionist tradition, she builds her surfaces from acrylic, resin, street inks, pigment powders, fabric and, most distinctively, plastic, and treats each painting as an open experiment. Her paintings move between celebration and loss, memory and renewal. As she puts it: "More than anything, I hope my artwork inspires hope, joy, and reflection in those who experience it."
