Cedric Vu
Cedric Vu (b. 1996) is a French-Vietnamese self-taught visual artist based in San Jose, California, USA, primarily rendering his compositions by tufting yarn into textile works. Since starting his art practice in 2024, his work has since been exhibited across the United States and internationally, and his textile practice has led to artist campaigns with Timberland and Spotify. His work is also held in the private collection of celebrity stylist and image architect Law Roach.
As his work develops, he hopes to expand into a wider range of mediums and subject matter while continuing to build a cohesive body of work. Textile art has become a central part of his practice and a foundation from which he continues to experiment with photography, sculpture, painting, and other forms of image-making. He develops his compositions by drawing from personal experiences and emotions, and his love for cinema, literature, and pop culture.

“ Starting my art practice became a way for me to reclaim a sense of agency, autonomy, authorship, and intellectual freedom in my life and creativity. Before developing my practice, I often struggled to process my own experiences and articulate what I felt or believed. Self-portraiture became a way of holding a mirror to myself and making those emotions tangible and legible. I think many people feel increasingly disconnected from their agency and ability to say what they truly mean. I want to mean what I say through my work and hopefully inspire others to feel safe enough to do the same. ”— Cedric Vu
