Christiane Corcelle

Christiane Corcelle

Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.

Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.

She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.

Painting for me is a playground - a space for expression and joy. Remarkably, the way I create my artwork mirrors how I live: a potpourri of diverse elements that may seem unrelated but come together harmoniously.

- Décollage

Décollage is a technique based on the removal and tearing away of layered materials to reveal underlying surfaces and imagery. Unlike collage, which builds by addition, décollage uncovers through subtraction, creating rich textures and a sense of visual archaeology.

Corcelle Christiane sanding Surface by hand

carefully sands each surface by hand, embracing a slow, attentive process rooted in craftsmanship. This quiet preparation creates a soft, refined ground that supports the subtle depth of her compositions. The resulting surface feels calm, luminous, and thoughtfully resolved.

Studio Process: Sanding

In this video, sands the surface using a machine, maintaining her signature attention to precision and finish. The controlled, methodical process prepares a smooth, even ground that supports the quiet depth of her work. This careful foundation reflects her ongoing commitment to craftsmanship and material sensitivity.
