The Piece

There is something universal about an embrace, and Cuddemi knows it. She keeps the details spare - no faces, no setting - so what remains is pure feeling. She paints the hug the way one remembers it: not in sharp detail, but in warmth and weight, the watercolor softening the edges until two figures become, briefly, one.

About

The Artist

Flavia Cuddemi is a Sicilian-born painter and illustrator based in Rome. Before devoting herself fully to art, she studied biomedical engineering in Pisa, a background that quietly informs the precision and curiosity she brings to her practice.

Cuddemi works in watercolor, drawn to its resistance to full control, a quality she sees as a mirror of life itself. Her paintings explore two connected worlds: the intimacy of the human body, where hands reach and figures hold each other in gestures that feel both tender and charged, and vast open landscapes, where solitary figures stand within expansive horizons and shifting skies, small against everything around them.

Together, her work asks questions about touch, solitude, and what it means to belong - to another person, to a place, to oneself.
