The Piece
ALTAR VII is a quietly resonant textile work that reflects Panda’s refined sensitivity to structure, color, and material. Created with fabric stretched over stretcher bars, the piece carries a soft tactile presence that brings warmth and subtle depth to the wall.
Layered bands of blush, sun-warmed yellow, soft coral, and muted neutrals form a centered, architectural composition that gently draws the eye inward. The work suggests a threshold or contemplative space, balancing geometry with a sense of calm, almost meditative stillness.
Beautiful as a standalone gem, ALTAR VII becomes even more powerful when presented alongside other works from the Altar series. Grouped together, the pieces create a cohesive visual rhythm and a stronger architectural statement on the wall.
A refined and quietly luminous work that adds warmth, balance, and thoughtful presence to a carefully curated interior.
The Artist
The Artist
Panda Landa (b. 1982) is a queer, non-binary visual artist and filmmaker who creates vibrant mixed-media textile works using reclaimed, hand-dyed materials. Raised in the deserts of Nevada and now based in Joshua Tree, Panda draws inspiration from the quiet, open landscapes that shaped them, letting the colors, textures, and moods of the desert guide their work.
Self-taught in visual art, Panda works through instinct and improvisation, allowing each piece to develop naturally. Sustainability is central to their practice: every fabric is sourced second-hand and transformed through careful hand-dyeing, giving each artwork its own unique history. Their ongoing series - PORTAL, ALTAR, ECLIPSE, VESSEL, and more - explores themes of queerness, identity, ancestral narrative, healing, and transformation.
With a background in filmmaking, including their 2022 film ‘In the Middle of Everywhere’, Panda brings a strong sense of atmosphere and storytelling to their visual work. Their pieces invite viewers into a world shaped by emotion, color, and the quiet power of reclaiming and reimagining what already exists.
